Raccoon Run Winter Sports Center in Shelter 3 of the Big Oaks Area at Riverbend Recreation Area will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. It will be the first time in two years the required snow base of four to six inches will be available, according to Bill Patch, Hancock Park District operations manager.

In case of inclement overnight weather, visitors should call 419-424-1555 to check trail conditions at the park for skiing and snowshoeing.

If needed, equipment rental rates for snowshoes and cross-country skis are $7 per hour or $20 per day. Exact cash or checks are preferred. Credit cards are not accepted. For groups of eight or more, a $0.50 discount is available with advance reservations and payment at the Hancock Park District office. A $0.50 discount is also offered for participants with a Golden Buckeye card. Group reservations are not scheduled during the sport centers regular hours.

Rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult and have a rental agreement signed by an adult 18 years of age or older. A fire will be available in the wood-burning fireplace and light refreshments will be available.
