Fostoria Police Division is warning area residents of a phone scam.
We have received several reports of a scam involving the IRS this afternoon, the division stated in a Facebook post at about 6 p.m. Friday.
Complainants advised they received a call from someone claiming to be the IRS, and that they owe money. The caller then advises that if the money is not paid, a warrant will be issued for your arrest.
The call is a scam. The IRS does not call taxpayers.
The police statement also assures residents that the IRS is not coming to arrest anyone who does not respond to their calls.
Heck, they wont even go after Al Sharpton for unpaid taxes ($4.5 million), they arent coming after you! the police post says.
