An Upper Sandusky man was seriously injured in a crash involving a motorcycle and semitrailer on U.S. 23 in southern Wyandot County this morning, according to the Bucyrus Post of the State Highway Patrol.

At 6:18 a.m. today, a semitrailer being driven by Robert A. Shepard, 71, of Yutan, Nebraska, was southbound on U.S. 23 in the right lane, according to the post. The semitrailer then made an illegal left turn from that lane onto County Highway 113, striking a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle that was traveling southbound in the left lane.

The motorcycle’s operator, Brian A. Bryant, 52, of Upper Sandusky, was ejected and struck by the right rear tires of the trailer.

Upon arrival, troopers found Bryant to be unresponsive, and both Upper Sandusky and Wyandot East EMS arrived on scene. A medical helicopter was also called to the scene and transported Bryant to St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, for serious incapacitating injuries, according to the post.

Shepard was not injured in the crash, the patrol said.

Assisting at the scene were the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office and Danner’s Towing.

The crash remains under investigation, the post said.
