LIMA — A Columbus Grove man will spend the rest of his life in prison after being sentenced Wednesday for crimes including repeatedly raping a child.
Richard Byrd, 62, will have to serve at least 56 years in prison, according to The Lima News.
According to Allen County Common Pleas Court records, Byrd pleaded guilty in November to 10 charges of rape, a first-degree felony; two charges of sexual battery, a third-degree felony; and one charge of gross sexual imposition, also a third-degree felony.
Byrd raped the victim “numerous times” from age 7 to age 14, according to The Lima News.
Judge David Cheney imposed sentences of 50 years to life for each rape charge, three years on each sexual battery charge and three years for gross sexual imposition.
Because some of the sentences will be served concurrently by Byrd, the minimum amount of time he could serve would be 56 years.
