GILBOA — A Gilboa man died when fire destroyed his house late Wednesday night.
The victim has been identified as Jason Mansfield, 42, according to the Putnam County Coroner’s Office.
The fire was reported via a 911 call at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday at 140 Franklin St., Gilboa, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.. The house was completely engulfed in flames when emergency responders arrived on the scene, and was a complete loss.
The fire also spread to a neighboring residence at 138 Franklin St., causing structural damage to the garage. A family of four was safely evacuated from the second home and was assisted by the American Red Cross.
Responding to the scene of the fire were fire departments from Gilboa, Pandora, Ottawa and Leipsic. Also assisting were emergency squads from Putnam County, Leipsic and Pandora, along with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Pandora Police Department, Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Putnam County Coroner’s Office.
The Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate the fire.
