Tom Davis, portraying John Hancock, will be the featured speaker at the Hancock County Chapter Ohio Genealogical Society’s Pioneer Banquet at 6 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Liberty Township Hall.

Davis, who is director of risk management services for the Hancock County Commissioners, will appear in full costume.

The banquet is open to the public. The meal, catered by Tony’s, will include baked steak or country fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll, beverage and pie. Tickets are $15 per person. Checks may be sent to the society at P.O. Box 672, Findlay, 45839-0672. Reservations and payment are due by Sept. 5.

The banquet celebrates members who have proven descent from a Hancock County resident before Dec. 31, 1845. Another award celebrated at the banquet will be settler, which is for those who can prove descent from a resident between Jan. 1, 1846, and Dec. 31, 1846. Settler and pioneer are two different awards, but cannot be given to the same line of descent. Membership in the society is a requirement for the award application and there is a $10 fee. Membership forms and publication order forms can be found in the Local and Family History Department at the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library, or on the group’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/hccogs.

There will also be a silent auction during the banquet. Last year’s auction raised over $200 for the society.

The society will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 6:30 p.m. tonight in the Lindamood Room at the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library. The featured speaker will be a Hancock Historical Museum representative talking about the gas boom.
