First Lutheran Church, 109 E. Lincoln St., will celebrate the first Sunday in Advent with traditional liturgical services at 8:15 and 10:45 a.m. Sunday school meets at 9:30. The church will also host this week’s community dinner, with a menu featuring beef and noodles, green beans, fresh fruit, homemade salads and desserts. A Christmas giveaway featuring gifts of books, hats, gloves and scarves will be available for diners. Carolers will warm up at the dinner, then head out to carol at the residences of homebound church members. The pastor’s lunch will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Scramblers, and the church book club will meet at 7 p.m. to select books for the 2019 season. Midweek Advent Taize services will be held in the nave at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Dec. 5, 12 and 19. The public is encouraged to come and enjoy music, prayer, peace and quiet during these candlelight services.
An Advent service of “Lessons and Carols” will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2300 Northridge Road. Christmas for Kids will be held from 1-4 p.m. Dec. 8, when children age 4-12 can learn about Jesus, make crafts, sing carols, play games and have a snack. PANDORA — The Pandora United Methodist Church Choir will present its Christmas cantata “Morning Star,” written by Lloyd Larson, during the 9:30 a.m. worship service Dec. 9. OTTAWA — Riley Creek United Methodist Church will host its 47th annual Christmas Carol Sing at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Like an old-fashioned songfest around the piano, the program will feature congregational singing of many traditional carols, as well as readings from Scripture about Jesus’ birth, special performances by the Pandora United Methodist Church Choir, Ottawa Saints Peter and Paul Choir, other musicians, and a candle-lighting ceremony. The congregation will also share a look at the building addition in progress, including restrooms, a kitchenette and a fellowship hall. The church is located southeast of Ottawa and northwest of Pandora at the intersection of Putnam County Roads M and 7-L (7102 County Road M, Ottawa). Sunday morning worship is at 11:15.
