Evangelist Randy Chovan will be a guest at First Baptist Church, 1635 Fostoria Ave., from Sunday through Wednesday. Chovan was converted on the island of Okinawa, Japan, while serving in the U.S. Air Force in 1976. He received his education from Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and from Spurgeon Baptist Bible College in Mulberry, Florida. Chovan has been a pastor and an evangelist for over 40 years, preaching the gospel on six continents. The church’s stewardship conference will begin at 9:30 Sunday as Chovan shares in the adult Bible class. He will also share the morning message at 10:30. A carry-in lunch will begin at noon, followed by a 1 p.m. service featuring Chovan. Evening services will continue at 6:30 through Wednesday. Nursery care will be provided during each service. First Lutheran Church, 109 E. Lincoln St., will celebrate The Baptism of Our Lord at services at 8:15 and 10:45 a.m. Sunday. Kids Choir will sing at the 10:45 service. The Brass Ensemble will play “Be Still, My Soul” at the late service and will accompany several of the hymns at both services. A noisy offering will be collected at both services to benefit Trinity Lutheran Seminary. A coffee and cookie fellowship will be held in the church lounge after each service. This month, Lutheran Social Services requests are for toilet paper, tissues, cleaning and laundry supplies, and toiletries. There is a cart in the elevator lobby for the collection. The church will host a prayer retreat based on the film “The War Room” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 25; register by Jan. 19.
First Presbyterian Church will celebrate the Baptism of the Lord with readings from Isaiah and Mark and the Rev. Jessie Commeret’s sermon during its 9:30 a.m. Sunday service. Community dinner is scheduled for 11 a.m. in the great room, where all are welcome to share food and fellowship. The church is located at 2330 S. Main St.

“Well Pleased” is the theme for Sunday worship at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church. A traditional service with the choir Jubilation is offered at 9 a.m., and a blended service with the Celebration praise band begins at 11:15.
