United Way of Hancock County is seeking project requests and volunteers for the 25th Annual Days of Caring, to be held May 6-10.
Days of Caring provides an opportunity for Hancock County nonprofit agencies to submit a project request form to the United Way, which then coordinates volunteer teams or individuals to respond to the request.
Volunteers are asked to devote four hours of their time during the workday to provide the assistance needed to address the project. Employers often use this opportunity as a way to bolster team spirit, increase morale, expose the company to the community, and provide employees with a greater understanding of how commitment of time and money makes a difference.
In 2018, Days of Caring provided 1,223 volunteers who completed projects for schools, churches and nonprofit organizations. Volunteers worked a total of 4,892 hours, providing labor worth $120,783 (based on the most recent Ohio volunteer hourly dollar value of $24.69 per hour).
Past projects have included: taking inventory of supplies, preparing mailings, landscaping, painting, cleaning and mulching trails, preparing community gardens for planting, cleaning vehicles and buses, cleaning churches, washing windows, shredding papers, washing kennels, and general office work.
Days of Caring is open to all local nonprofit organizations, including schools and churches. To sign up as an agency with projects, as a corporate team or an individual volunteer, visit https://www.liveunitedhancockcounty.org/days-caring-2019.
Deadline for team registration is midnight April 15; deadline for projects is midnight April 28.
