FOSTORIA — Fostoria’s community-wide garage sale event is set for this weekend.

Slated Friday and Saturday, the annual event features garage sales all over the tri-county area.

“I have a lot of stuff I want to get rid of. I noticed the ad on Facebook advertising (the event) and thought it would be a good time to do it,” said Lindsey Griffin, a first-time community-wide garage sale participant. “Since there’s a lot of them going on, I thought more people would be out shopping.”

Griffin will be selling a variety of electronics during her garage sale, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at her Rock Street residence, including DVDs, CDs, video games, a DVD player, an Xbox, toys and more.

“We’ve got quite a bit of stuff,” she said, noting that her two children are helping her organize and prepare. “It’s looking like it’s going to be good weather so hopefully we’ll have a good turnout.”

But not many have scheduled their garage sales, so far.

Officials said nearly 30 residents typically sign up for the event every year. But as of 3 p.m. Monday, a mere nine had paid for ads.

The event features a little of something for everybody and Griffin said she plans to “see what’s out there” on Friday before they host their garage sale.

Other items for sale throughout the town this weekend will include antiques, collectibles, jewelry, tools, fishing poles, clothing and more.

Although the two-day event serves as an outlet to get rid of unwanted items as well as a shopping spree for those looking for hidden treasures, the main goal, according to officials, is to bring people together.

“Everyone knows when Risingsun and Bascom have their garage sales and they plan around it,” Mayor Eric Keckler said. “It’s that sense of community connected to bring people in to spend a day in Fostoria.”

The deadline to put an ad in the Review Times about a garage sale for the community-wide event is noon Wednesday. The ads will run Thursday through Saturday.
