NORTH BALTIMORE — Aug. 22 with be the first day of classes for North Baltimore Schools, school officials said Tuesday.

“It’s a week later,” Ryan Delaney, district superintendent, told the North Baltimore school board Tuesday of the opening date.

Back-to-school open houses will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 20 at Powell Elementary and North Baltimore High and Middle School.

Separately, the board approved a slate of 20 supplemental contracts for the upcoming school season, including Kathi Bucher as head golf coach.

Separately, Nicole Hale was hired as a health aide for the 2018-19 school year.

Also, board member Jeremy Sharninghouse was picked by his peers to serve as its delegate to the Ohio School Boards Association’s 2018 annual business meeting.

In other business, the school board:

  • Noted that the district is installing cost-saving lights throughout the schools.
  • Approved an agreement with the Midwest Regional Education Service Center for vision impaired services on an as-needed basis for about $1,123 a year.
