United Way of Hancock County’s 2018 campaign kickoff will take place Thursday, Sept. 20, with events happening throughout the day.

Judy Pusateri, assistant resource development director, said ideas for the event emerged from conversations throughout Hancock County.

“Over and over again we heard requests for more family-friendly events that were low cost and alcohol free,” she said. “Taking this feedback to heart, we decided as a community organization to do just that! This year we are excited to have three events throughout the day that anyone can participate in.”

The event begins with a 5K run/walk at 6 a.m. at the Hancock County Fairgrounds. Registration is $25 and includes a shirt if registered before Sept. 6.

Food trucks will be at the fairgrounds from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. During lunch, information will be provided on all of the programs supported by United Way. Featured food trucks include Amy May’s Rockin’ Taco, Kimmel’s Meats, Taco Fiesta Hinojosa, King’s Concession and more.

A kickball tournament will take place at The Cube from 4 to 9 p.m., with the final tournament game happening under the lights. The United Way Kickball Invitational will feature 16 teams from local businesses. Food will be available to purchase for spectators at $5 a person or $10 for a family. The first 25 families that register online will receive a United Way blanket. The event will also feature a kids’ zone with inflatables, face painting and more. A rain date for the kickball tournament event with food and the kids’ zone will be Sunday, Sept. 23, from 4 to 9 p.m.

“This year our theme is ‘United We Win!’ We want to celebrate the winning spirit of our donors, our clients and our community as a whole,” Ginger Jones, United Way campaign chair for 2018, said. “The events we have planned are a great way to come together as a community, have fun and be an important part of making positive change happen.”

The full day of kickoff events is sponsored by Cooper Tire & Rubber Company, Whirlpool Corp., Blanchard Valley Health System, Tall Timbers Park, City of Findlay and Ultrasound Events.
