A Social Security scam is targeting the Findlay area.
Findlay police reported the department has received several calls about the issue. Someone is calling residents, claiming to represent the Social Security Administration.
The caller says someone has bought a large-ticket item like a house or car with the scam target’s credit. The caller will then ask for the last four digits of the target’s Social Security number and bank account number.
Some of the phone numbers appear legitimate because the scammer is “spoofing” real phone numbers.
Police urges residents to make senior family members are aware of the issue. Police don’t believe the scam has compromised anyone’s information at this time.
