NORTH BALTIMORE — A State Highway Patrol trooper was treated at Wood County Hospital after he was struck by a car while investigating an accident on an exit ramp near North Baltimore Sunday night, the patrol reported.

According to the patrol, Trooper Chris Kiefer was investigating an accident on the exit ramp from southbound Interstate 75 to Eagleville Road at 8:01 p.m. when a 2014 Ford Focus driven by Samuel J. Estep, 18, of Miamisburg, traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck the trooper.

Kiefer was taken by Mid-County EMS to the Bowling Green hospital where he was treated and released, the patrol reported. Estep was uninjured.

According to the patrol, the roadway was ice-covered, and unsafe speed was a factor in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
