FOSTORIA — The Greater Fostoria Community Foundation celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2018.
On Aug. 12, 1998, the Fostoria Community Foundation Fund was opened at the Cleveland Community Foundation as the first step toward creating the Greater Fostoria Community Foundation.
In 2018, the foundation celebrated the 20th anniversary of the establishment of this first fund.
Local leaders established the Greater Fostoria Community Foundation to allow those who care about Fostoria to make a lasting investment in their community.
As a public, charitable, nonprofit organization, the mission of the foundation is to improve the quality of life by building a permanent endowment to support community needs in areas such as the arts, culture, humanities, economic development, civic affairs, education, health and social services.
The foundation now holds a collection of 25 component funds that are pooled together and invested. Earnings from endowed funds are used to give grants to qualified 501(c)3 organizations in the community.
Since its inception, the foundation has distributed over $2.26 million to almost 60 nonprofit charitable organizations in Fostoria and surrounding townships, giving over $177,400 to the community in 2018.
