Candidates in two contested Findlay races in the May 7 Republican primary have agreed to participate in forums being hosted this week by The Courier, WFIN radio and University of Findlay Television.

The events will feature the four GOP candidates for three at-large Findlay Council seats, and the three Republican candidates for Findlay mayor.

Moderating the events will be Steve Dillon, editorial page editor of The Courier, and Doug Jenkins, WFIN news director. Both forums are free and open to the public.

The forum featuring candidates for the at-large council seats will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Ritz Auditorium, located at the University of Findlay in the “Old Main” building. The event is expected to last about 90 minutes.

Incumbent at-large Councilmen Jeff Wobser, Tom Shindledecker and Grant Russel, and challenger Matthias Leguire, are all vying for GOP votes on May 7.

The top three vote-getters in the primary will advance to the November general election, where they will compete with Democrat Abigail Hefflinger.

The second forum, on Thursday, will feature candidates from the three-way Republican mayoral race, including interim Findlay Mayor Christina Muryn, 1st Ward Councilwoman Holly Frische, and Hancock County Commissioner Brian Robertson.

In November, the GOP winner will face Democrat Chad Benschoter.

The mayoral forum will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium of the University of Findlay’s Winebrenner building, 950 N. Main St., and is expected to last about an hour.

The forums will be broadcast live on WFIN at 1330 AM and 95.5 FM. Video should be live on UFTV’s YouTube channel: UFTV Productions.
