The ranger station at Riverbend Recreation Area was broken into and a nearby pickup truck was stolen early Monday morning.

Bill Patch, Hancock Park District operations manager, said vandals broke a skylight on the ranger station about 12:11 a.m. Monday and tore a security pad off the wall, which set off the alarm.

The vandals grabbed vehicle keys inside the building and entered a fenced area where they stole a 2015 Ford F-150 four-wheel drive pickup truck and drove through the fence.

The truck was later found in the Blanchard River east of Hancock County 140.

Patch said an insurance adjuster is working with the park district to finalize a claim. No estimate on the damage was given Tuesday.

The vandals have not been identified.
