NEW RIEGEL — One Carey man was killed and another Carey resident was seriously injured when they were ejected from the bed of a moving pickup truck Friday night in rural Seneca County, the State Highway Patrol reports.

Anthony Ray Luzader, 47, of Carey, was pronounced dead at the scene, the patrol said.

Nathanyal Earl Griffin, 22, of Carey, suffered serious injuries and was taken by Life Flight medical helicopter to St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, the patrol said.

The patrol said a 2011 Ford F-150 pickup truck, driven by Aaron J. Luzader, 41, of Carey, pulled from a private driveway onto westbound Seneca County 59, south of New Riegel, about 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The driver accelerated and caused three people who were riding in the bed of the pickup — including Anthony Luzader and Nathanyal Griffin — to be ejected, the patrol said.

Cody James Luzader, 19, of Carey, also was ejected but was not injured, the patrol said.

A fourth person in the bed of the truck, Austin D. Hossler, 21, of Fostoria, was not ejected and was not hurt, the patrol said.

Marisa A. Heldman, 20, of Fostoria, who was a passenger in the cab of the truck, also was not injured, the patrol said.

Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the accident, the patrol said.

No charges had been filed as of early Saturday.

The State Highway Patrol was assisted at the accident scene by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, NBS Joint Fire District, and New Riegel EMS.
