FOSTORIA — A Fostoria man was apparently struck and killed by a CSX freight train, Fostoria police said Saturday.

The man, found Saturday morning along the Adams/Tiffin train tracks, was identified as Brett A. Barchus, 21, Fostoria Police Chief Keith Loreno said.

No foul play is suspected, Loreno said, and it appears Barchus was hit by a train. The Hancock County coroner has ordered an autopsy, which will be conducted this week.

“This is an unfortunate incident and a reminder to be cautious around any rail lines, whether on foot or in an automobile,” Loreno said.

Train traffic on the CSX line was stopped for several hours while Fostoria police and investigators from the state Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation processed the scene.
