A Findlay man was indicted Tuesday on two counts of aggravated robbery, both first-degree felonies, for allegedly robbing a Findlay gas station on Monday.
Kip Allen Wright, 27, allegedly entered the Exxon at 1831 Fostoria Ave. about 6:55 a.m. Monday and demanded money from an employee while “brandishing a handgun,” Findlay police said.
As the employee was walking toward the cash register, Wright allegedly hit him in the face with the gun. The employee continued to the register and gave the suspect an undetermined amount of cash. Hanco EMS treated the employee at the scene for an injury to his mouth and upper lip. One of the robbery charges is for harming the employee, and the other is for having a weapon. Both charges have a firearm specification.
Wright was identified via surveillance video from the gas station, Lt. Ryan Doe said. Police did not immediately release a photo of him because they wanted to “do some legwork” before Wright was aware he was the suspect.
A warrant was issued through Findlay Municipal Court late Monday, Doe said. Wright has not been arrested yet.
Police are still working to determine whether Wright was responsible for a June 13 theft at the Games of Skill internet cafe, and an armed robbery at CashMax on June 19, Doe said. That includes reviewing video and witness statements, and they want to talk to Wright.
The white male suspect in each incident wore a bandanna over the lower part of his face. The CashMax and Exxon robberies involved a gun, but the theft from Games of Skill did not, Doe said.
Tips on Wright’s whereabouts can be called in to Crime Stoppers from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 419-425-8477 or to the police department at 419-424-7150 any time.
A reward may be given through Crime Stoppers for information leading to Wright’s arrest.
In May, Wright was indicted for aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony; tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony; and theft, a fifth-degree felony. Wright allegedly possessed methamphetamine on March 24 in Findlay, and tampered with a glass tube on the same day. He is also suspected of taking a blank check from a Findlay pizza shop on April 4.
His criminal history also includes receiving stolen property (a dirt bike), theft of an air conditioner on one occasion and a television on another, and several charges stemming from a 2014 break-in at Tony’s Restaurant on U.S. 224.
Wright also sold heroin and a counterfeit controlled substance in 2014.
