Today and Friday, Findlay Mayor Christina Muryn will take part in a national initiative, “Move with the Mayor” walks.
Those who would like to participate in today’s walk should gather at 7:30 a.m. at Coffee Amici, 328 S. Main St. Coffee Amici is offering drink specials as an incentive to join the 30-minute walk.
On Friday, walkers will gather at 11:30 a.m. at JK Juices, 117 Crawford St., where beverages and other items will be available for purchase.
During the walks, participants will have an opportunity to talk with the mayor.
The U.S. Surgeon General is promoting walking and walkable communities as a way to combat heart disease, stroke and other chronic diseases.
Walking 30 minutes a day can reduce a person’s risk for heart disease by 40 percent. Half of U.S. adults have a chronic illness such as heart disease or stroke.
“Move with the Mayor” is an initiative of the National Forum for Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention.
