The Hancock County commissioners approved a nearly $4 million road and bridge program for 2020 during its meeting Monday.

Hancock County Engineer Doug Cade, who presented the resurfacing plans to the commissioners, said the program would include more than 32 miles of roads, estimated at more than $2.7 million, and replacement of four bridges, estimated at more than $1.2 million.

Normally, the county is able to pave 12 miles of road annually, Cade said. There are about 352 miles of paved roads in the county.

Resurfacing is scheduled on the following roads, with township, length and estimated cost:

Allen Township — Hancock County 220, from Hancock 99 to Van Buren south corporation line, 3.24 miles, $443,890.

Allen Township — Hancock County 99 at intersection with Hancock County 220, 0.20 mile, $74,638.

Marion Township — Hancock County 180 from Ohio 37 to Ohio 568, 1.41 miles, $155,026.

Cass Township — Hancock County 18 from Hancock County 216 to Ohio 613, 3.21 miles, $322,303.

Blanchard/Pleasant townships — Hancock County 96 from Hancock County 16 to Hancock County 53, 2.03 miles, $166,757.

Pleasant Township — Hancock County 126 from McComb north corporation limit to Pleasant Township 111, 3.8 miles, $329,475.

Orange Township — Hancock County 12 from Hancock County 304 to Orange Township 28, 2 miles, $146,182.

Blanchard/Liberty townships — Hancock County 86 from Ohio 235 to Ohio 12, 3.92 miles, $376,148.

The total estimated cost for the eight roads is more than $2.014 million.

The Ohio Public Works Commission will fund 50 percent of two other projects, with the county paying the remainder:

Blanchard/Pleasant townships — Hancock County 53 from U.S. 224 to the railroad crossing and Hancock County 203 to Hancock County 5, 6.93 miles, $402,841.

Pleasant/Portage townships — Hancock County 203 from Ohio 235 to the Wood County line, 5.44 miles, $368,142.

The total estimated cost for the two roads is $770,984.

The following bridge projects are planned: in Delaware Township, replacement of box culvert on Hancock County 2, for $51,472; in Marion Township, removal of bridge deck and installation of precast box beams on Marion Township 205, for $43,943; and in Cass Township, removal of bridge and reconstruction with precast abutments and box beams on Hancock County 216, for $56,443.

The total estimated cost for the three bridges is $151,858.

Four other bridge projects will have contracts sought for the work:

Delaware Township — removal of box culvert on Hancock County 2 and installation of a box culvert, for $71,500.

Delaware Township — removal of bridge deck on Hancock County 153 and installation of precast box beams, for $350,000.

Marion Township — removal of bridge deck on Marion Township 205 and installation of precast box beams, for $120,000.

Cass Township — removal of bridge on Cass Township 216 and reconstruction with precast abutments and box beams, for $72,500.

The total estimated cost for the four bridges is $614,000.

In Findlay, the Howard Street bridge will be removed and replaced with a 35-foot long bridge, for $450,000. The Ohio Public Works Commission will pay $360,000 and the county will fund $90,000.

Asphalt patching will be done on eight roads:

Union Township — Hancock County 37, from Ohio 235 to Rawson west corporation line, 2.01 miles, for $52,671.

Eagle Township — Hancock County 60, from Hancock County 24 to Hancock County 26, 2 miles, for $52,409.

Eagle Township — Hancock County 9, from Hancock County 24 to Interstate 75 bridge, 5.93 miles, for $155,392.

Eagle Township — Hancock County 45, from Hancock County 9 to U.S. 68, 2.51 miles, for $65,773.

Eagle Township — Hancock County 75, from Hancock County 45 to Hancock County 40, 0.51 mile, for $13,364.

Jackson/Eagle townships — Hancock County 26, from Hancock County 9 to Hancock County 37, 6.79 miles, for $177,928

Amanda/Delaware — Hancock County 273, from Mount Blanchard east corporation line to Hancock County 197, 3.5 miles, for $91,716.

Amanda/Delaware — Hancock County 197, from Hancock County 4 to Ohio 15, 4.54 miles, for $118,968.

Total estimated cost for the eight roads is $401,976.

Two roads will be widened for an estimated $300,000.

Jackson Township 172, from Hancock County 180 to Ohio 37, 2 miles, for $120,000; and Madison/Delaware Township 2, Township 177 to Township 185, 3 miles, for $180,000.
