Munoz advances to Div. I sectional

BOWLING GREEN — For the first time in a long time, Findlay High School’s boys golf team will not be competing in the Division I district golf tournament.

Junior Matt Munoz will carry on the Trojans’ tradition, though, after qualifying as an individual from the Division I sectional held at Bowling Green’s Stone Ridge Golf Club on Tuesday.

Findlay finished eighth among the 13 schools in one of two Division I sectionals staged in Northwest Ohio. The top five teams qualified for the Division I district tournament to be played Oct. 13 at Red Hawk Run Golf Course.

The top five golfers from non-advancing teams also qualified for the district, and Munoz posted the top score in that group with an 80.

Sophomore Jordan Goeb carded an 86 and fell one stroke shy of a playoff for one of those individual spots. Freshman Harrison Hall had a 93 and senior Chad Quanrud a 94 for Findlay’s 353 team total. Brock Milum (101) completed Findlay’s lineup.

Toledo St. John’s dominated the sectional at Stone Ridge, posting a 302 team score to beat runner-up Toledo St. Francis (320) by 18 shots. Sylvania Northview (326), Oregon Clay (331) and Sylvania Southview (335) completed the list of teams advancing to the district.

Joining Munoz as individual qualifiers were Matt Hutton (81) of Fremont Ross, Maumee’s Dimitri Hohenbrink (83), Anthony Wayne’s Nathan Ice (85) and Perrysburg’s Cameron Flynn (85).

Sylvania Southview’s Ryan Fries was the medalist with a 31-35–66.

Findlay’s girls golf team will take its shot at earning a district berth today when the Trojans take part in the Division I girls sectional being held at Arlington’s Sycamore Springs Golf Course.
