After winning the school’s first girls league championship, Riverdale netted the North Central Ohio Soccer Association’s top awards as the NCOSA released its all-conference selections for the 2017 campaign.
Riverdale’s Reygan Frey was voted as the NCOSA’s Player of the Year while the Falcons’ Andrew Snook shared the coach of the year award with Cory-Rawson’s Mark Schwemer.
Frey and Snook helped the Falcons to an unbeaten run through through the NCOSA and a 13-3-3 overall record. Frey was one of Riverdale’s top offensive players as she netted 23 goals with eight assists.
Schwemer, meanwhile, coached the Hornets to an 8-8-1 mark this season.
Riverdale senior midfielders Gabi Rodriguez and Lexie Wright also made the first team. Other first teamers included Liberty-Benton’s Savanah Richards, Carson Garlock and Sophie Aschemeier, Cory-Rawson’s Hayley Waltz and Hannah Bixler, Van Buren’s Lisa Simmons and Hannah Missler and Upper Sandusky’s Megan Hensel and Jenna Rodriguez.
Gabi Rodriguez shared scoring honors for Riverdale with Frey as she scored 19 goals and added 16 assists. Wright chipped in seven goals and two assists.
Richards, a junior forward, scored 25 goals with five assists to lead the Eagles to their third straight regional tournament appearance. Garlock, a senior, was honored for her play defensively while Aschemeier recorded 81 saves as L-B’s freshman goalkeeper.
Waltz scored 18 goals and added eight assists while Chisholm netted nine goals with seven assists for Cory-Rawson.
Hensel put together a terrific senior season for Upper Sandusky as she scored 19 goals with seven assists. Rodriguez was honored for her play on the defensive side of the field but still managed to record five assists for the Rams.
For Van Buren, Lima Simmons earned her first-team nod as she recorded nine goals with six assists. Hanna Missler chipped in 12 goals with an assist for the Black Knights.
