University of Findlay senior lineman Andrew Alten has been named NCAA Division II first-team all-American by the American Football Coaches’ Association.
Named the Great Midwest Offensive Lineman of the Year and D2CCA First Team All-Region, Alten anchored an offensive line that, prior to his injury in week nine, protected its quarterback better than any offensive line in the country, allowing just 0.33 sacks per game. In Alten’s nine games, Findlay rushed for 292.3 yards per game (fourth in the country), scored 47.7 points per game (third in the country), and picked up 248 first downs (second in the country).
His efforts helped lead an Oilers offense that was one of just two teams in the country in any division to average over 250 yards of rushing offense and passing offense (the other was Ohio State).
Alten is the fifth player in program history to earn all-American honors from the AFCA and just the third to be named first team.
