HILLSDALE, Mich. — Another troublesome fourth quarter at Hillsdale cost the University of Findlay women’s basketball team a victory Saturday.
The Oilers were outscored 22-15 in the frame and fell 75-67 to the Chargers in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play at Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena.
Anna Hintz scored a game-high 23 points for the Oilers (13-3, 10-2 GMAC). She was the only UF player in double figures.
Brittany Gray and Makenna Ott scored 18 and 17 points, respectively, for the Chargers (9-6, 7-4).
Last year, Findlay and Hillsdale were tied at 47-47 through three quarters before the Chargers took the final frame 26-9 and the game 73-56.
In nearly a repeat fashion this time around, the Oilers put together a strong third quarter (19-11) to pull within 53-52. They even took the lead for the first time since 21-20 in the first quarter when Kendyl Hinton knocked down a jumper on UF’s opening possession of the fourth period.
Hillsdale scored the next nine points, however, getting five from Maddy Reed and four from Allie Dittmer.
Findlay cut it to 69-67 at the 1:24 mark but missed its next two shots and saw Hillsdale to score on its next three possessions to put the game away.
Lynsey Englebrecht finished with nine points for Findlay, but was just 1 of 6 from 3-point range, marking her third game without making multiple 3s.
The Oilers’ Christa Puthoff and Haley Horstman had seven points apiece.
UF, which entered the game sporting the second-most efficient scoring offense in the country at 49.8 percent, endured a sub-par shooting night at 45 percent (27 of 60). The Oilers also suffered their worst 3-point shooting performance at 4 of 20.
