Olivia Sherman scored five goals and added three assists to power the University of Findlay women’s lacrosse team to a 17-4 nonconference win over Davenport University on Sunday.
The Oilers jumped out to an 11-2 lead at the break and cruised through the second half for the victory. They outshot the Panthers 35-10 and held a 31-15 advantage in ground balls.
Maddi Brown and Brie Caruso each had three goals. Brown added two ground balls while Caruso had three ground balls and two assists.
Emma Spellman added two goals and three ground balls. Defensively, Brittany Stephens and Hallie Canfield each caused two turnovers.
Goalie Claire Ferrell picked up the win as she recorded six saves.
The Oilers will be back in action again Wednesday when they hit the road to face Wingate University.

Baseball nets sweep
AUBURNDALE, Fla. — The University of Findlay baseball team scored a sweep on its first day in Florida as the Oilers topped West Virginia Wesleyan 11-5 and 9-6 on Sunday.
UF freshman Ethan St. Clair had a collegiate debut to remember as he hit a grand slam in his first career at bat for the Oilers in the team’s six-run third inning.
St. Clair also added a single while Derrick Herd, Trevor Anderson, and Troy Merriman each collected a pair of hits.
Colin Gosard picked up his second win of the season as he tossed five innings and scattered six hits while striking out seven batters.
In the nightcap, a two-out single from Derrick Herd and Nic Varda’s two-run double gave UF a 3-0 lead in the first inning that they wouldn’t relinquish.
Mark Delas picked up his first win of the year pitching 62/3 innings and striking out nine batters while Josh Robinson came in to get the final out.

Kelly leads golfers
MELBOURNE, Fla. — The University of Findlay men’s golf team is in 10th place after Sunday’s opening round of the Panther Invitational at the Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla.
The Oilers shot a 324 on the first day of competition and were led by Luke Kelly, who is tied for 26th with a 77.
Ryan Wilburn turned in a 79 and is tied for 34th while Dylan DeWitt is tied for 43rd with an 81.
Cam Wardley (82), Sam Griffith (83), Justin Roth (84), Grant Ricketts (85) and Cameron Bruce (90) also played for the Oilers.
Florida Southern leads the 11-team field with 285 strokes.

Western equestrian wins
The University of Findlay western equestrian team advanced to the regional semifinals as the Oilers hosted the Zone 6, Region 1 show Saturday.
UF’s Hanna Hedderick earned the high-point rider award and will show at nationals in the High Point AQHA Division.
Morgan Knerr and Julia Roschelli qualified for the national semifinals in reining. Open horsemanship qualifiers were Hedderick and Anna Ritzi Roschelli and Hailey Ostrowski advanced in advanced horsemanship and Jamie Kittle and Brandon Morin qualified in novice horsemanship.
Three other UF riders advanced as Leaj Ely and Maverick Guenther qualified for the semifinals in intermediate horsemanship and Alan Durden in beginner horsemanship.
