NOTABLE: Pandora-Gilboa and Mohawk have never met on the basketball court. They will tonight at 6:15 p.m. when the Rockets and Warriors tangle in Division IV regional semifinals at Bowling Green State University. The Warriors will be playing in the regional tournament for the first time in school history.
Pandora-Gilboa’s only regional appearance came in coach Joe Braidic’s first stint as the school’s head coach in his first year back in 1999. The Rockets dropped a 56-50 decision to Edgerton in the regional semifinal that year to end up 14-10.
In just his second year since taking over the program at Mohawk, coach Paul Dunn’s Warriors won a school record 19 games. Zach Hayman, a 5-foot-11 junior guard, was among the Northern 10 Conference in scoring (18.0) and steals (3.3) while 6-5 junior post Chris Klopp grabbed 6.3 rebounds per game.
The Rockets, meanwhile, rolled up perfect records to win league titles in both the Blanchard Valley Conference and Putnam County League behind player of the year Drew Johnson.
Johnson, who will play for NAIA Huntington University next year, averaged 17.8 points and 6.0 rebounds a game.
