CINCINNATI — The University of Findlay women’s golf team dominated the rest of the field as the Oilers claimed the Great Midwest Athletic Conference championship Tuesday at Four Bridges Country Club.

The Oilers fired a 298 on the final day of the tournament for a 36-hole total of 318-298–616. Trevecca Nazarene was next with a 331-326–657 total, 41 strokes behind the Oilers.

Ohio Dominican (667) was third followed by Walsh (684), Malone (686), Alderson Broaddus (688), Ohio Valley (762) and Ursuline (913).

Findlay golfers swept the top four spots individually.

Makenzie Torres won the tournament with an 80-71–151 and teammates Meredith Wipper (80-77–157) and Samantha Hatter (81-76–157) tied for second place. Kristina Knisely finished in a three-way tie for fourth at 84-74–158. Samantha Kellstrom was seventh with a 77-82–159.

Lacrosse team wins

Ciara Burud scored six goals and added an assist on Tuesday when the University of Findlay women’s lacrosse team chalked up a 17-7 win over Walsh in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference match played at UF’s Armstrong Sports Complex.

Burud’s six goals gave her a team-leading 39 for the season. Olivia Sherman added three goals and an assist and Jacelyn Litman (2 assists), Allison Kelly and Maddi Brown had two goals each.

UF goalie Brooke Eicher made 12 saves as the Oilers, 8-2 in the GMAC, won for the seventh time in their last eight matches to improve to 12-3 overall and tie the school record for wins in a season.

Ashland pounds Oilers

ASHLAND — Ashland hit a lot of frozen ropes — literally — on Tuesday in pounding out an 18-3 win over the University of Findlay baseball team.

The Eagles banged out 19 hits, including eight doubles and a home run. Alex Laikos belted a three-run home run in the fourth inning and added an RBI double in the sixth, and Alex Niecikowski had a bases-loaded double in the fifth inning, a two-run double in the sixth and drove in six runs.

Austin Eifrid (2-2B, 1B) and Sam Hawley (2-2B) had two doubles each and Carson Mittermaier (1B, 2B), an Upper Sandusky graduate, had an RBI double.

UF’s Josh Schwerer (1B, 2B) had an RBI double in the fourth inning and Casey Gould (2-1B) singled in a run in the eighth.

Ashland improved to 23-11 on the season, while Findlay fell to 18-11 with its fifth loss in the last seven games.

Equestrian teams advance

The University of Findlay English and Western equestrian programs, both coming off zone championships, will be taking part in their national tournaments May 3-6 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

UF’s English equestrian team, led by reserve champion Brianna Hallman, won the Zone 6 team title in an April 7 competition at Otterbein University. The Western program was regional champion of a meet held in March in Reedsville, West Virginia.
