Dark Horse avenged an earlier tournament loss by beating Studio M twice on Sunday to win the Young Miss Softball Bantam Division tournament at Swale Park.

Studio M beat Dark Horse 9-8 earlier in the tournament. But Dark Horse swept Sunday’s rematches, including a 3-1 victory in the championship game behind a two-run double by Rylee Taylor. Serenity Savage doubled, tripled and drove in the lone run for Studio M.

Dark Horse forced one final game by rallying for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to beat Studio M 12-11. Caylee McDaniel drove in five runs with a pair of doubles and Taylor (2 RBI), Jayla Brown (2 RBI) and Kateland Keefe doubled as well. Jewell Crawford (2-2B) and Maggie Bramel drove in three runs each and Kailyn Goldman added an RBI double for Studio M.

Findlay’s Layne honored

Findlay’s Lexie Layne is a three-time all-Ohio diver. Now she can add prep All-American to her resume.

The National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association recently released its list of the top 100 female high school divers in the country and Lane is on the list. A senior-to-be at Findlay High School, Layne was one of just 13 Ohio divers to make the list and the only one from Ohio’s Northwest District.

A three-time state qualifier, Layne placed 10th in the state meet as a freshman, 13th as a sophomore, and a career-best ninth this past season. Layne set an 11-dive school record in the district meet with a score of 455.75 points. She also holds the school record in the six-dive competition of 291.50.

Layne is Findlay’s second diver to earn All-American honors. Jim Kennedy was also a prep All-American in 1972.
