VAN BUREN — After a scoreless first half, Van Buren’s boys soccer team doubled up Maumee Valley Country Day 2-1 in the second half to open the season with a win Saturday.
Seniors Thomas Piccirillo and James Koehler each scored for the Black Knights. Jordan Frederick assisted Koehler and Saige Warren made three saves.
Mujahid Abdel-Ghani scored for MVCD and Thomas Hank saved 10 shots.

ARCHBOLD — Archbold scored six goals in the first half en route to a 9-0 rout of Fort Jennings in a nonleague boys soccer match Saturday.
The Musketeers didn’t muster a shot on goal while enduring 31 by the Blue Streaks.
Fort Jennings goalkeeper Evan Hoersten made 22 saves and Archbold’s Andrew Hogrefe recorded three.

ADA — Even playing two men down for the final 30 minutes of the match, Ada was able to knock off Indian Lake 2-1 in a nonconference boys soccer contest Saturday at War Memorial Park.
Chris Reyes scored a goal with an assist and Jacob Poling added a goal for the Bulldogs.
Ada goalkeeper Drew Hadley recorded 11 saves.
ST. MARYS MEMORIAL 2
BLUFFTON — Bluffton led 2-1 late in its game with St. Marys Memorial before the Roughriders scored the equalizer with 5:14 left in the contest for a 2-2 boys soccer tie Saturday at Steinmetz Field.
Jonathon Schriner scored in the first half and Jesse Montel netted a goal in the second for the Pirates. Luke Young had assists on both goals.
The Pirates finished with a 10-7 edge in shots.
BERLIN HILAND 3
BERLIN — Riverdale made the trip to Amish country Saturday night and came away with a 3-3 tie against Berlin Hiland in new head coach Dylan Beck’s boys soccer debut.
Logan Frey opened the scoring for the Falcons and goals by Coby Miller and Tyler Hart gave the Falcons a 3-2 lead early in the second half.
Declan Howell and Jadon Yoder scored Hiland’s first two goals before Brayden Gray’s tally in the 51st minute knotted the game at 3-3.
Jackson Clark had two assists and Miller one for Riverdale, which was outshot 12-9 by the Hawks.
Ethan Shane recorded four saves for Riverdale. Brent Clint had five saves for Hiland.
UPPER SANDUSKY 5
UPPER SANDUSKY — Upper Sandusky’s Jaidyn Thiel scored a hat trick and added an assist for good measure to power Upper Sandusky to a 5-2 nonconference boys soccer victory against Clyde saturday.
Luke Amert scored the other two goals for the Rams. Bill Shumaker and Ross Swinehart added assists.
Brock Newsome and Shane Hohman scored goals for the Fliers.
Clyde managed to outshoot Upper Sandusky 15-11. Upper Sandusky’s Anson Hill had a solid game as he recorded 13 saves. Alex McKee had six saves for Clyde.
OTTOVILLE — After an opening-day tie Friday, Ottoville picked up its first win of the season with a 5-0 nonconference boys soccer victory against Spencerville Saturday.
Brice Schroeder scored a pair of goals and Carson Stoner, Dalton Davis and Nolan German each chipped in one goal.
