NORWALK — Findlay High School’s Ashley and Kelsey Coleman teamed up for a second-place finish at No. 4 doubles to lead the Trojans’ girls tennis team at Saturday’s Norwalk Doubles Invitational.

As a team, the Trojans placed third with 50 points. Host Norwalk edged Willard 100-95 for the team title.

The Colemans knocked off Clyde’s Averie Fritz and Kiara Miller 6-0, 6-1 and topped teammates Mollie Quaid and Sydney Swisher 6-3, 4-6, 10-3 in the semifinals. They ran out of gas in the final, falling to Norwalk’s Lauren Metcalf and Emma Trost 6-2, 6-2.

Quaid and Swisher rebounded to finish fourth as they knocked off Bellevue’s Kaitlin Cullen and Emily Swinger 6-0, 6-1 before teammates Antonia Beltz and Hayli Herrera stepped in and fell to Willard’s Addy Paxton and Kaili Sowers 8-2 in the finals.

Findlay also got third-place finishes at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

At No. 2 doubles, the Trojans’ Maggie McGhee and Izzy Zalat stopped Findlay’s Katie Short and Shayla McDonald 6-0, 6-1 in their opener before falling to Willard’s Kennedy Doub and Emma Moll 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinals. McGhee and Zalat downed Shelby’s Kristen Long and Madison Sharrock 8-4 in the third-place match.

Evelyn Kutschbach and Katie Gagle outlasted Jerica Awwiller and Faith Gosser 6-4, 7-6 (4) in their No. 3 doubles opener. They lost to Topri Barnett and Whitner Robinson of Willard 6-0, 6-4 but stooped Clyde’s Megan Barett and Hali Hagemeyer 8-6 in the consolation final.

In addition to their loss to McGhee and Zalat, McDonald and Short were defeated by Clyde’s Maddie Bannister and Strudthoff 8-3 to finish seventh.

At No. 1 doubles, Findlay’s Kaylor Stocker and Katelynn Coleman lost to Norwalk’s Megan Berry and Jordan Gran 6-1, 6-2 and Shelby’s jensen Feussner and Leah Karnes 8-4. They tied for seventh place.
