ADA — Brock Martin was outgained by two teammates, but the freshman found the end zone three times on runs of two yards or shorter in leading Ohio Northern past Muskingum 42-14 in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Martin, a Seneca East graduate, racked up 44 yards on 12 carries, but scored on a pair of 1-yard runs and a 2-yard rush for the Polar Bears (2-0, 1-0 OAC).

Anthony McFadden paced ONU’s offense completing 18 of 28 passes for 223 yards and two scores, while rushing for a game-high 112 yards. Chad Rex caught nine passes for 58 yards and a 16-yard touchdown.

The Polar Bear defense, led by David Haseleu’s 12 tackles and Mark Niles’ 11, held Muskingum (1-1, 0-1) quarterback Brody Hahn to just 14 of 33 passing. Hahn added 88 yards and a TD on the ground and Cameron Near led with 90 yards.

ANGOLA, Ind. — Bluffton did not have an answer for Trine’s Lamar Carswell as the Beavers went scoreless in three of four quarters in a 34-13 nonconference loss on Saturday.

Carswell bullied his way to 157 yards and three touchdowns — including scoring runs of 1, 10 and 49 yards — on 29 carries and added a fourth score on an 8-yard TD reception in the first quarter. Trine improved to 2-0 with the win.

Bluffton, which fell to 0-2 overall, scored its lone touchdown on a 70-yard pass from Plummie Gardner to Adam Duncan with 1:49 to play in the second quarter. Duncan capped the Beavers’ scoring with a pair of second-quarter field goals.

Dylan Shaffer paced Bluffton’s defense with 10 tackles and Isaac Zickafoose blew through the line for a pair of sacks.

D’on Stinson, now a sophomore and a Findlay High graduate, scampered for nine yards on three carries for Trine.
