Findlay High’s volleyball team kept it close but Bowling Green and Coldwater never faltered in posting straight set wins over the Trojans during a tri-match held Saturday at Findlay.

Coldwater held off Findlay 25-21, 25-23 in one match. BG topped the Trojans 25-17, 25-18, and posted a 23-35, 25-21, 25-18 win over Coldwater.

Findlay’s senior setter Grace Blatnik was a perfect 112 for 112 setting with 33 assists in the two matches. Blatnik was also 12 of 12 serving with two aces and came up with 13 digs.

Jessica Tremains, who was 32 for 35 spiking, and Aubrey Hucke (16-18) led Findlay with eight kills each. Elle Price (26-34 spiking, 3 blocks) had seven kills and Kristen Scherger (15-17 spiking, 4 blocks) and Sammy Vance (30-32 spiking) added five kills each.

Price (17-18 serving, 1 ace) led Findlay with 21 digs, Claire Bishop (13-13 serving, 1 ace) had 16 and Vance had 14.

Findlay (0-8) will host Toledo Whitmer today in a nonleague matchup between the Three Rivers Athletic Conference schools.

Pioneer Days Invite

KALIDA — Unbeaten Liberty-Benton played just one set over the minimum en route to winning Saturday’s Kalida Pioneer Days Invitational.

The Eagles, who improved to 9-0, swept Fairview (25-15, 25-14) and host Kalida (25-13, 25-16) before beating Parkway 25-16, 22-25, 25-17 in the championship game.

Hannah Warrington combined for 25 kills and 20 digs for L-B, while missing just one serve and two spikes. Chloe Miller led with 32 digs, Izzy Granger served five aces with 27 kills and 16 digs and Caitlin Elseser hammered 18 kills and had eight blocks.

Schy Shepherd served a team-high five aces for L-B and Alissa Rhodes had 68 assists without missing a set (143-143), spike (17-17) or serve (16-16).

Kalida (1-6) beat Lima Perry before losing to Liberty-Benton in the second round and Lima Bath in a consolation game.

The Titans, now 9-0 on the season, edged Wauseon 20-25, 25-19, 25-12 and swept Napoleon 25-14, 25-15.

O-G’s Taylor Alt tallied 22 kills and 15 digs while Bri Schimmoeller led with 23 assists. Claire Eiden had 25 digs and 10 aces.

VANLUE — Riding a four-match winning streak, Vanlue carried its momentum from a first-set volleyball blowout to a 25-7, 25-18, 25-15 sweep of Waynesfield-Goshen on Saturday.

The Wildcats, who have won five straight matches after an 0-2 start to the season, improved to 5-2.

Maliah Snook’s 10 kills, 11 digs and seven blocks led Vanlue. Emma Biller posted a team-high 20 digs with seven kills and Bethany Smith had 15 digs.

Audrey Phillips was 12 of 12 serving and led with 23 assists. Snook and Emma Franks served two aces apiece.

Waynesfield-Goshen dropped to 1-8 overall.

Shaye Hemminger recorded 10 digs and Lauren Grubb dished out 20 assists on 53 of 53 setting and added seven digs and three aces.

BASCOM — Peyton Hoover and Olivia Savidge combined for 30 kills and Abbi Roerdink delivered 29 assists as Hopewell-Loudon toppled Fostoria 22-25, 25-19, 11-25, 26-24, 15-11 on Saturday in nonconference volleyball.

Hoover put away 13 kills and made a team-high 13 digs and Savidge collected 11 kills and a team-best seven blocks as the Chieftains upped their record to 6-3.

Tyriana Settles recorded 30 kills and 20 digs for the Lady Red (8-2), while Dakota Thomas tallied 36 assists and Baleigh Robinson served for a pair of aces.

The Blue Devils (3-6) were led by McKenzie Row’s 15 kills and a pair of aces. Sadie Arend served a team-high three aces with eight kills and a block.

Ellison Roark chipped in 18 digs for Carey and Emma Wagner had 30 assists with 11 digs.

Green knocked down 12 kills and Watkins added 10 as the Redskins moved their record to 4-3.

Samantha Burnett and Caity Cramer notched 20 and 11 assists, respectively, for Arcadia, which also got three aces and 14 digs from Sydney Ramsey.

Mikayla Simons added nine kills with two blocks and Addilyn Diller dished out 22 assists for the Rockets (3-3).

CONTINENTAL — Breanne Eickholt recorded eight kills and Jessica Stauffer dished out 19 assists as Continental broke into the victory column for the first time this season with a 25-23, 25-6, 25-16 noconference volleyball win over Lima Temple Christian on Saturday.

Eickholt and Kennedy Hiltner each served a pair of aces and Madelyn Potts came up with 13 digs for the Pirates, who upped their record to 1-6.

The Pioneers dropped to 1-7.
