New Riegel graduate Kara Scherger tallied a match-high 15 digs to help the University of Findlay volleyball team sweep Ohio Dominican 25-17, 25-17, 25-19 for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference win Tuesday at Croy Gymnasium.
The Oilers improved to 8-1 overall, 3-0 in the GMAC.
Amanda Winner and Shelby Kin (Carey) led UF with eight kills apiece, while Izzy Murphy chipped in seven kills.
Hailee Olson totaled 31 assists and seven digs for the Oilers.
Allie Rutter (St. Wendelin) made seven digs for the Panthers (2-10, 0-4).
Elmwood girls golf 2nd
NORTH BALTIMORE — Elmwood’s Kaylie Kingery and Taylor Tyson each shot a 50 to help the Royals tie for second place at Tuesday’s Northern Buckeye Conference Shootout at Birch Run Golf Course.
Otsego secured first place with a team score of 200. Elmwood shared second place with Genoa (224). Lake (227), Rossford (229) and Eastwood (229) rounded out the team scores
Haley Zimmerman and Abi Lee both shot a 62 to score for Elmwood.
Genoa’s Regan Guthrie was medalist with a 42.
UF women’s golf 3rd
Carmel, Ind. — The University of Findlay women’s golf team broke the 54-hole school record with 894 to finish third at the University of Indianapolis Fall Invitational on Tuesday.
The Oilers (299, 299, 296) finished 30 strokes behind host and team champ Indianapolis (864).
Findlay’s team total broke the previous mark set in the 2016 National Championship tournament at 899.
Individually, Makenzie Torres led the Oilers as runner-up with a 221.
Samantha Hatter tied for 22nd (225), while Meredith Whippper and Kristina Kniesly tied for 25th with a 226.
Samantha Kellstrom also competed for UF with a 231.
BU athletes honored
BLUFFTON — Three Bluffton University athletes have earned player of the week honors from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference for their efforts in their respective sports.
Adam Duncan was selected the HCAC special teams football player of the week after scoring all 13 points in BU’s 34-13 loss to Trine. Duncan caught a 70-yard touchdown pass, booted the extra point and connected on 25- and 34-yard field goals.
Ottawa-Glandorf graduate Brooke Kleman was named the HCAC Volleyball Player of the Week on defense. The freshman libero had 35 digs in a match against Heidelberg, 31 against Ohio Northern and was named to the all-tournament team during the Sommer Center Spiketacular hosted by BU.
Also, Skylar Liming was named the HCAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week on offense. Liming scored two goals, including the game winner in the final 10 minutes, and assisted on the other in a 3-2 win over Hiram. Liming leads the Heartland Conference with five goals and 11 points.
