CEDARVILLE — Carey graduate Shelby Kin put away 10 kills and made four blocks and New Riegel alum Kara Scherger came up with 20 digs for the University of Findlay, but the Oilers dropped a 25-22, 26-24, 25-23 decision to Cedarville on Saturday in Great Midwest Athletic Conference volleyball match.

Arlington graduate Lauren Willow contributed eight kills and three blocks to the Yellow Jackets as they lifted their record to 6-12 overall and 5-6 in the GMAC.

Izzy Murphy had a team-high 13 kills and Amanda Winner added 10 for the Oilers (13-3, 8-2 GMAC). Hailee Olson handed out 42 assists and Molly Hammersmith made five blocks.

Women’s soccer falls

The University of Findlay women’s soccer team got on the board first on Ashley Rings’ unassisted goal just 3:54 into the match before Walsh rallied for as 2-1 Great Midwest Athletic Conference win over the Oilers at DeHaven Field, handing UF its first conference loss of the season.

Walsh’s Brianna Sanborn scored on an assist from Madalyn Canter at the 10:22 mark of the first half.

Hannah Bowman scored the game-winner at 18:02 of the first half on an assist from Ashley Dobbins.

Walsh (7-2-1 overall, 6-1-1 GMAC) doubled UF in shots 14-7.

Anna Money had five saves for the Oilers (7-1-2, 6-1-2). Mickey McClanahan had three saves for the Cavaliers.

Walsh tops men’s soccer

Walsh scored a pair of goals in the final 161/2 minutes to knock off the University of Findlay 3-1 in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer match at DeHaven Field.

UF’s Ben Bolinger broke the ice with an assisted goal with 52:47 to play in the contest. Dwight Van Dyke’s unassisted goal for Walsh less than two minutes later tied the match.

Wesley Burton scored with 17:34 to play and Van Dyke scored his second goal of the afternoon on a Brandon Denton assist to put the Cavaliers (5-5-1, 3-5-1 GMAC) up 3-1.

Walsh edged the Oilers (2-8, 2-5) in shots 12-10. Goalkeeper Nathanael Yoder recorded six saves for Findlay. Tom Jackson had five saves for Walsh.

Gleason leads UF men

AKRON — The University of Findlay’s Ty Gleason (Liberty-Benton) finished 36th with a time of 25:13.93 on the men’s 8,000-meter course to lead the Oilers to a 14th-place showing at Saturday’s All-Ohio Cross Country Championships at Silver Lake Metro Park.

Akron edged Ohio for first place in the men’s meet. Ohio Northern, led by Ian McVey’s fourth-place individual finish in a time of 24:23.8, was 11th with 372 points. UF (403) finished 14th and Bluffton (871) was 31st int he 39-team field.

Findlay’s Gabrielle Lawrence placed 30th in the women’s 6,000-meter race in 22:37.2.

Toledo outscored Walsh 32-105 for the women’s championship. Ohio Northern (500) was 15th, Bluffton (628) placed 22nd and Findlay (782) ended up 28th.

Ohio’s Josh Park (24:14.5) was the men’s individual champion while Toledo’s Athena Welch (21:01.5) crossed the finish line first in the women’s race.

Swimmers open

The University of Findlay women’s swim team won four events as the Oilers opened the season at Cleveland State’s Viking Relay Challenge.

Hanna Cederholm, Asthon Klopp, and Kendra Polewski teamed up to capture first place in the 300-yard butterfly relay (2:57.93). Cederholm also teamed with Kristina Coleman and Julia Snell to finish first in the 300 breaststroke relay (3:23.07)..

Polewski added two more wins as she teamed with Olivia Wile, Christina McFarland, and Amanda Stiegal to take the 500 relay (4:41.10) and and joined Steigal, McFarland, and Sarah Miles to win the 400 free relay with a time of 3:42.28.

Tyler Endecott, Isaac Stretch and Nathanial Ladetto were second in the 300 breaststroke relay (3:08.2) to lead the way for the Oilers in the men’s meet.
