LIBERTY-BENTON’S HANNAH WARRINGTON, right, spikes the ball at Van Buren’s Lindsay Shaw during Monday’s Blanchard Valley Conference volleyball match.

VAN BUREN — Julie Todd’s assessment of her Liberty-Benton volleyball team was concise.

And for anybody on the Eagles’ schedule, a bit scary.

“I think we do a good job of keeping our focus,” Todd said. “(But) We’re always working on little things, always setting goals like minimizing our hitting errors, getting a certain number of blocks, holding teams under a certain number of points. ….

“Looking ahead, I think we’re still getting better.”

It would be hard to find fault in any part of L-B’s game on Wednesday when the Eagles, ranked No. 3 among Ohio’s Division III teams, ran their unbeaten record to 21-0 and completed a second straight 11-0 run through the Blanchard Valley Conference with a straight set 25-10, 25-15, 25-14 win over Van Buren.

Excellent balance along the front line underscored L-B’s win. Izzy Granger, a freshman, had 12 kills, 6-foot-3 junior Caitlin Elseser had 11, and Hannah Warrington and Schy Shepherd pounded 10 each. Shepherd added five blocks and Elseser four.

“We had 48 kills tonight with a kill efficiency of .427. That’s one of our best of the year so far,” Todd said.

“A lot of teams have two good hitters. We’ve got four and they’re all pretty even. We’re pretty excited about that.”

Alissa Rhodes continually fed the front line. The junior setter was 80 for 80 setting with 39 assists.

Warrington (13-13), Abby Reynolds (11-11) and Molly Walker (11-11) were a perfect 35 for 35 from the service line. Warrington also led the Eagles with 22 digs with Chloe Miller adding 19.

L-B completes regular season play on Wednesday when the Eagles travel to Eastwood. A year ago, the two teams were both undefeated when they met, with Eastwood edging L-B in five sets.

Emma Reineke had eight kills to lead Van Buren (15-6, 6-5 BVC) in Monday’s match. Lindsey Shaw had nine digs, Maddy Marks had seven digs, and Sydney Leeper and Mackenzie Saltzman each had three kills.
