Findlay High School senior Jordan Goeb fired a 45-38–83 to lead the Trojans’ boys golf team to ninth place at Thursday’s Division I sectional golf tournament at Red Hawk Run Golf Course.
Perrysburg led the 10-team field with a 353 on a chilly and windy day for golf. Toledo St. John’s picked up the second team birth for next week’s OHSAA Division I state tournament with a 356.
Sylvania Northview (359) was third followed by Lexington (365), Anthony Wayne (369), Lima Shawnee (374), Ashland (374), Wapakoneta (375), Findlay (377) and Norwalk (379).
Junior Harrison Hall backed Goeb with a 43-51–94, senior Zach Thomas had a 53-46–99 and sophomore Justin Hartman added a 53-48–101 to complete the FHS scoring. Will Templin was the Trojans’ fifth man and finished with a 55-47–102.
Oregon Clay’s Palmer Yenrick fired a 37-40–77 to medal and earn a spot as individual at state. Ashland’s Max Watson also advanced as he was second in the medalist standings with a 40-38–78.
Tennis players fall
BOWLING GREEN — No area players were able to advance to the Division II girls state tennis tournament from the district tournament Thursday at Bowling Green State University’s Keefe Courts.
Ottawa-Glandorf’s doubles duo of Mariah Schroeder and Addy Schmiedebusch lost in the first round 6-4, 6-1 to Sandusky Perkins’ Maria Schoder and Diana Schoder.
Fostoria’s Kyhra Baeder and Rubi Dessausure lost their first-round match 6-0, 6-1 to Lima Bath’s Ruby and Esther Bolen.
The district tourney continues Saturday with singles and doubles semifinal matches in Port Clinton.
The top four finishers in singles and doubles have advanced to the Oct. 19-20 OHSAA Division II state tournament in Mason.
