One rematch down.

One rematch to go.

Kaylee Brodine scored three goals, Morgan Kirk had two assists and Madison Mlsna had one of each in leading Findlay High School’s girls soccer team to a 6-1 win over Toledo Whitmer on Wednesday in a first round Division I district tournament game at Elmer Graham Stadium.

It was Findlay’s second six-goal game against Toledo Whitmer, a team the Trojans defeated 6-0 in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference matchup a week ago.

It also earned Findlay a rematch with another regular-season opponent. That will come at 5 p.m. on Monday when the seventh-seeded Trojans (8-6-3) face No. 1-seeded Ashland (14-3-0), a team that beat Findlay 4-0 in an Oct. 4 nonleague contest, in the district quarterfinals at Sylvania Northview High School.

Brodine highlighted a rat-a-tat scoring burst by the Trojans.

In the first seven minutes of play, the sophomore forward scored one goal off an assist by Kirk and another on an assist from Mlsna. Brodine got her third goal of the game — and her ninth of the season — just 34 seconds after Rebecca Day’s penalty kick gave Findlay a 3-0 advantage with 6:04 left in the first half.

Chase Ebanks had the assist on Brodine’s hat trick goal.

Toledo Whitmer (8-7-2) got on the board when Danielle Pluszczynski scored two minutes into the second half.

An unassisted goal by Alivia Benjamin restored Findlay’s four-goal lead at the 21:38 mark, though, and Mlsna found the back of the net on an assist from Kirk exactly one minute later to complete the scoring.

Findlay converted half of its 12 shots on goal. Senior keeper Kendra Wurm faced two shots on goal, making one save.

Caitlin Fraley led Findlay defensively with seven intercepts and a steal. Ebanks had six intercepts and Benjamin had four.
