FOSTORIA’S ALEX SIERRA, left, finds running room during Friday’s game against Rossford. Sierra scored a touchdown as the Redmen racked up a 34-32 overtime win against the Bulldogs.

ROSSFORD — Rossford called a timeout after Cam Reynolds caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Shiffert.

Van Halen’s “Right Now” started to play on the PA system while the Bulldogs planned for a two-point conversion. When they returned to the field, Shiffert again looked for Reynolds — the duo already had connected for three touchdowns on the night — but Fostoria High School’s Avondre Reed broke up the pass and the Redmen hung on for a 34-32 overtime win Friday night in Northern Buckeye Conference play.

Fostoria had already scored a touchdown, an 18-yard run by Maalik Tucker, and Tucker had run successfully for the conversion, putting the pressure on Rossford.

KeShawn Carter-Stokes halted a Bulldog drive when he intercepted a Shiffert pass near the Fostoria 10-yard line with just 57 seconds left in regulation and returned it 17 yards.

Ultimately, the Redmen ended up punting and Shiffert took a knee with just 6 seconds remaining, forcing the overtime with the score deadlocked at 28-28.

Fostoria led just once before overtime, pulling ahead 22-20 when Tucker rushed for a 4-yard touchdown and Bryan Stenson ran for the 2-point conversion with 59 seconds left in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs regained the lead at 5:57 of the fourth when Shiffert scored on a 3-yard run, his second rushing touchdown of the game. This time, Rossford tried for 2 and was successful, as Reynolds caught a Shiffert pass that put the Bulldogs up 28-22.

Stenson tied the score at 28-28 with a 43-yard touchdown reception from Devin Mauricio, concluding 75-yard, five-play drive in just 1:34.

Rossford opened the scoring in the first quarter when Reynolds hauled in a 13-yard pass from Shiffert at the 1:14 mark and Jackson Murtha kicked the extra point for a 7-0 Bulldogs lead.

The Redmen scored on their next possession, as Tucker cut left and ran around the end for touchdown from 2 yards away. FHS missed the 2-point conversion, leaving Rossford in the lead 7-6 at 8:47 of the second quarter.

Shiffert scored the first of his two rushing touchdowns on a 1-yard run up the gut and Murtha’s kick extended the Bulldogs’ lead to 14-6 with 5:42 left in the half.

The Redmen answered quickly as Alex Sierra completed a 64-yard, six-play drive with a 28 yard scoring run and Mauricio ran for the conversion to knot things at 14-14 with 3:32 remaining in the first half.

On Rossford’s next possession, Reed intercepted a Shiffert pass and the Redmen drove the ball from their own 34 to the Rossford 9 yard line before turning the ball over on downs with 39 seconds left in the first half.

The Bulldogs used just three plays in the drive, culminating in a 39-yard touchdown pass from Shiffert to Reynolds with 8 seconds remaining. The extra point attempt was blocked, keeping the score at 20-14.
