Martin Etsey triple-jumped 51 feet, 4½ inches, the longest in Division II this season and fourth in the nation among all divisions, on Saturday to highlight the University of Findlay’s track teams’ performances at the season-opening Oiler Opener.

With his jump, a Malcom Athletic Center site record, Etsey earned an automatic qualifying bid for the Divison II national championships.

Several Oilers earned provisional qualifying bids to nationals.

Lenell Shelby III won the 60-meter hurdles in 8:20. The 1,600 relay quartet of George Effah, Kurt Grieger, Shelby and Xavier Marable won in 3:19.59. Gabe Makin won the pole vault (15-61/4), while Justin Dreyling was first in the long jump (23-8).

Two Oilers had provisional marks in the weight throw. Austin Combs was fourth (66-71/4) and Dequan Lovell was eighth (62-6).

Other UF winners included Marable in the 400 (49.90) and Jaye Williams in the 200 (23.14).

On the women’s side, two UF athletes had provisional qualifying marks. Semoy Hemmings won the 400 (57.26) and Hannah Hahler was fourth in the shot put (44-91/2).

UF winners included Hemmings, Jenna Shipman, Mikaely Pean and Hayley Robinett in the 1,600 relay (4:05.03), and Shipman in the long jump (17-81/4).

On Friday, Effah ran at Grand Valley’s Holiday Open and won the 400 in a provisional qualifying time of 48.22.
