PERRYSBURG — Van Buren’s Kaleb Snodgrass had quite the weekend.

Snodgrass followed up Friday’s 2-0 start with a perfect Saturday performance to win the 220-pound weight class under the spotlight at the Perrysburg Invitational Tournament.

Snodgrass , now 15-3 on the season, reached the final by edging Delta’s Austin Kohlhofer 2-1 in the semifinals. He had an easier time in the final, whipping Wauseon’s Aaron Harris 9-1 to take the title.

He was the only placewinner for the Black Knights.

Elmwood’s Kain Brossia dropped Friday’s quarterfinal match at 285 pounds before storming back through the consolations to lead the Royals with a third-place finish.

Brossia was one of five Elmwood to place in the tournament.

He won four straight matches Saturday to finish the tournament with a 6-1 mark, raising his record to 16-2 this season. Brossia downed Delta’s Dalton Richard 7-3 in his third-place bout.

Corey Loera (138) was fourth with a 4-2 record while Will Bechstein (220) was also fourth with a 5-2 mark. Garrett Wright (170) and Gunner Endicott (145) were fifth and sixth, respectively, for the Royals.

Lakota’s Trevor Franks rebounded from an 18-6 semifinal loss to Perrysburg’s Drew Newton by winning his next two bouts to end up third. Franks improved his record to 15-1 heading into next week’s Van Buren Invitational with a 9-4 victory against Strongsville’s David Gercol in the third-place match.

Kaleb Leeth was the lone placer for Mohawk as he went 5-2 and netted a fourth-placer finish at 182 pounds.

Genoa outscored Wauseon 225-199½ in a battle of state powers for first place. Elmwood (112½) was the top area team in seventh place. Van Buren (48) finishes 20th, Mohawk (43) was 22nd and Lakota (24) ended up 28th in the 35-team field.

Davis, DiRe win titles

LIMA — Cory-Rawson’s Deontae’ Davis and Liberty-Benton’s Nathan DiRe both netted individual championships to lead area wrestlers at Saturday’s Lima Senior Invitational.

Davis improved his record to 14-1 with four wins to take the 170-pound division. Davis knocked off returning Division II district placer Lawrence Slygh of Elida in the championship match.

DiRe, meanwhile, is 22-1 after going 4-0 to win the 182-pound weight class. He stopped Delphos St. John’s Chase Martin 3-2 in the finals.

Liberty-Benton’s Dylan Mersch (195) finished third while Race Gorrell (170) and Brett Ogborn (152) both placed fourth for the Eagles.

Hayden Blank was fourth at 182 pounds for Pandora-Gilboa.

Eastwood outscored Mechanicsburg 239-195 for first place in the team standings. Liberty-Benton (137) was sixth, Cory-Rawson (103) tied for eighth place, Pandora-Gilboa (17) was 17th and Ada (12) ended up 18th.
