FREMONT — Findlay High School’s swim team won four girls and one boys race at Saturday’s Division I sectional at Fremont Ross’ Hawk-Bucci Natatorium.

Gracie Smith and Kaylor Stocker were triple winners for the FHS girls team, while Parker Stocker scored a win in the boys meet.

The top 32 individuals and 24 relays from across the Northwest District and the Northeast District sectional at Lakewood qualified for next week’s Division I district meet at Bowling Green State University.

Smith and Kaylor Stocker helped the Trojans finish third in the 18-team girls field with 326 points. Fremont Ross (421) won the meet, with Mansfield Madison (417) in second place.

Smith’s individual win came in the 50 freestyle as she touched the wall in a time of 24.63 seconds. Stocker was second in 24.86 in the race. The FHS duo also went 1-2 in the 100 free with Stocker winning in 54.47 seconds and Smith netting second place in 54.51.

The pair also teamed with Meghan Quaid and Gabby Diehl to win the 200 free (1:39.85) and 400 free (3:40.54) relays.

Earlier in the week, Lexie Layne won the sectional diving crown with a score of 453.15.

Findlay’s boys team also had a strong showing, as the Trojans scored 293 points to finish second to Toledo St. Francis, which racked up 547 points.

Parker Stocker got the only victory for the FHS boys team by topping the field in the 500 free (4:40.66). He was also second in the 200 free (1:44.82) and teamed with Ethan Spradlin, Selby Wilt and Josh Kreinbrink for second in the 200 free (1:30.3) and 400 free (3:20.46) relays.

Findlay High School’s Katie Thomas added to her school-record 3-point shooting efforts and Kaylee Brodine posted another double-double as the Trojans knocked off Defiance 48-39 in a nonconference girls basketball game on Saturday.

Findlay jumped out to a 28-18 halftime lead and played Defiance nearly even in the second half to improve its record to 6-14.

Thomas connected for four more 3-point goals, as she led all scorers with 16 points. She added to her career (122) and season (65) 3-point-goal school records. Brodine netted 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Chloe Holliday added 10 points and eight boards for the Trojans.

Alex Hartman and Carlee Smiddy both scored 10 points to lead Defiance (6-13).

SYLVANIA — Findlay followed up Friday’s night’s loss to Bedford with a bounce-back conference win on Saturday, edging Sylvania Northview 3-2 in its regular-season finale.

The Trojans, who enter the district tournament with a winning record at 13-12-3, used speed and pressure to earn its second Northwest Hockey Conference win of the season.

Harry Hall and Jackson Schmits both tallied a goal and an assist for Findlay. Ethan Franks scored the Trojans’ other goal, with Jake LaMaster and Jordan Goeb adding an assist each.

Blaize Cain stopped a game-high 24 shots in goal for Findlay.

The third-seeded Trojans resume play at 6 p.m. Thursday at Sylvania’s Tam-O-Shanter Arena against the winner of Perrysburg-Sylvania Southview in the district quarterfinals.

If both teams win their openers, Findlay and Northview could meet in the district semifinal on Saturday, Feb. 23.

NAPOLEON — Findlay High School led its match with Napoleon 24-15 through eight weight classes but the Wildcats won five of the final six matches to pin a 45-27 nonconference dual match loss on the Trojans.

T.J. Barnes (106), Jonah Smith (138), Max Jolliff (152) and Jake Noon (220) recorded pins while Jimmy Phadphom (113) scored a win by decision for the Trojans.

Findlay’s focus will turn to Saturday’s Three Rivers Athletic Conference championships, which are set for Saturday at Toledo Whitmer.
