Leadoff batter Ethan Canterbury tied it with his second double of the game and Phillip Bibler followed with a game-winning RBI single to left as Findlay rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to nip Lima Bath 9-8 on Saturday in the first game of a season-opening baseball doubleheader.

Findlay also used some late rallies in the second game, scoring 10 times over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to complete the sweep, 12-3.

Bath took an 8-5 lead in the opener with four runs in the top of the sixth inning, but Findlay rallied in the seventh. JD Spiceland was hit by a pitch leading off the inning, Ben Howard walked and Andrew Stechschulte followed with an RBI single. Harry Hall had a bunt single to load the bases before Canterbury’s double and Bibler’s base hit won it for the Trojans.

Canterbury (2-2B, 1B) drove in two runs and Bibler two hits and an RBI. Garit Krupp earnd the win with two innings of one-hit relief.

Stechschulte had two doubles, Canterbury and Bibler one each and Pat Dillin had two hits and drove in two runs in the second game. Dillon also earned the win, allowing just three hits and striking out nine in 52/3 innings of work.

FOSTORIA — Liberty-Benton tied the game with a single run in the top of the seventh inning, then won it with a four-run eighth in beating Fostoria 8-5 on Saturday in the 2019 baseball season opener for both schools.

Griffin Snider started and Anthony Wolford got the win for L-B. Between them, they struck out 13 Fostoria batters.

Snider (3-1B, 2 RBI) and Wolford (2-1B, RBI) also combined for five of L-B’s 11 hits and half of the Eagles’ RBI.

Dylan Sheets and Trey Groves had a single and a double for Fostoria.

UPPER SANDUSKY — Upper Sandusky’s Brenyn Marquart tossed a no-hitter as the Rams started their season with a 6-1 nonleague baseball win over Bellevue on Saturday.

Marquart allowed one unearned run in seven innings with seven strikeouts and four walks. Keaton Cunningham doubled and drove a pair of runs for the Rams, who scored all six of their runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

PANDORA — J.J. Overs pitched a two-hit, five-inning shutout Saturday as Upper Scioto Valley racked up a 12-0 nonconference baseball win against Pandora-Gilboa to open the season.

It was the first win for Arlington graduate Nathan Inniger as USV’s head coach.

Overs and Connor Sanders both smacked a pair of singles and a double. Connor Sanders had a double and a single and Dan Dunifon added two singles. Both also drove in three runs for the Rams.

Brennen Morman and Eli Huffman singled for the Rockets.

FORT JENNINGS — A pair of big innings proved costly for Fort Jennings’ baseball team in nonleague play on Saturday.

Lima Senior scored seven runs, six unearned, in the top of the seventh to win the opener 11-6 and used a five-run second frame to coast to an 8-6 win in the finale.

Thomas Calvelage singled twice and drove in a run in the first game while Brad Eickholt singled and had the lone RBI in the second game for the Musketeers (0-2).

Elsasser doubled and singled driving in four runs in Ridgemont’s 17-7 win over the Wildcats in the opener.

Xavier Temple stroked three singles and Kerean Ward added two singles and three RBIs in the first game for Vanlue.

Elsasser pitched five innings and allowed two runs to get the 8-2 win in the second game.

Levi Gazarek pitched a three-hitter, struck out 11 and banged out three hits in the opener for North Baltimore. The 6-foot-5 junior belted two doubles, a triple and drove in four runs in the Game 2 rout.
