PARKERSBURG, W. Va. — The University of Findlay’s baseball team exploded for 17 runs in the second game of a doubleheader Sunday, the squad’s most runs in a game since April 2013, as the Oilers swept Ohio Valley 5-2 and 17-1 to gain a split of a pair of weekend Great Midwest Athletic Conference doubleheaders.

Ohio Valley defeated UF 15-9 and 7-6 in Saturday’s games.

Tyler Archambeau had three hits and four RBIs in Sunday’s second game. Nic Varda had a home run among his three hits, and Austin Rawlins doubled twice with three RBIs. Casey Gould and Jordan Williams each drove in two runs.

Alex Foulks hit a home run in the first game and had three RBIs. Varda and Gould also drove in runs, and Tyler Kennedy (1-1) struck out 10 batters in 62/3 innings to get the win. Trey Bame (Carey) earned his second save.

UF improved to 8-9 overall, 3-5 in the GMAC.

In Saturday’s games, OVU (4-16, 4-4 GMAC) used a six-run seventh inning to clinch the first game and got the go-ahead run via a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth in the second game.

UF’s Tyler Burley and Rawlins each homered and drove in two runs in the first game, while Derrick Herd had a two-run shot in the second game.

Softball splits

CEDARVILLE — The University of Findlay softball team split a pair of close Great Midwest Athletic Conference games against Cedarville University on Saturday.

The Oilers (11-13, 3-3 GMAC) took the first game 2-1 before falling 3-2 to the Yellow Jackets (15-8, 2-3).

In the first game, winning pitcher Hailey Bryan (7-5) tossed seven innings of five-hit ball with three strikeouts and one walk.

UF’s Rebecca Harvey (Elmwood) had three hits, including two doubles and an RBI over both games.

Morgan Fisher took the loss in the second game, allowing three runs, one earned, on seven hits in six innings.

Two seconds for track

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Gabe Makin and Lenell Shelby III recorded second-place finishes to lead the University of Findlay track and field teams at Saturday’s Winthrop Addidas Invitational.

Makin was second in the men’s pole vault with a vault of 15-7 as teammate Ryan Stevens was fourth at 14-7¼. Shelby’s runner up finish came in the men’s 400 hurdles (52.93).

Daniel Agbola was third in the 800 (1:55.96) and Javian Martin eighth in the discus (147-8).

The Oilers also were fourth in the 1,600 relay (3:15.3) and seventh in the 400 relay (42.14).
