ARLINGTON — Arlington built a commanding 11-1 lead over Columbus Grove on Monday, then had to weather a big comeback by the Bulldogs to come away with 17-12 win in an error-filled softball game.

Columbus Grove (18-5) and Arlington (13-9) were both coming off winning seasons, but both struggled in their season openers.

Grove outhit Arlington 13-10, but committed five errors and issued 11 walks. Arlington scored 15 runs over the first four innings, but 11 errors proved costly.

Amber Durliat got the win and helped her cause with a two-run home run.

The Arlington junior also drew three walks and scored four times. Morgan Wykes had an RBI triple, Alyssa Bushong a two-run double and Abbie Sheets two RBI singles. Janay Helms (2-1B) and Lindsay Dodds (1B, RBI) scored three runs each.

Joy Stechschulte had three base hits and Danielle Bame (1B, 2B), Madison Zimmerly and Kenzie King had two each for Grove.

BLUFFTON — Bluffton freshman Lauren Swartzlander scored on an error with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Pirates to a 7-6 nonconference win against McComb.

Katie Prater homered, doubled and singled driving in a pair of runs and winning pitcher Libby Schaadt homered and singled with two RBIs for the Pirates (1-0).

Shaye Hemminger had a home run and two singles with two RBIs and Lauren Dishong added a double, single and two RBIs for McComb (0-1).

Shelby Steinbrook took the loss as she allowed six earned runs on 13 hits in 62/3 innings.

UPPER SANDUSKY — Upper Sandusky pitcher Alivia Oney allowed just one run on four hits while striking out 11 in five innings as the Rams rolled to a 12-1 nonconference win against Kenton.

Upper Sandusky’s Alexis Fogle homered and singled, driving in four runs.

Jade Holman smacked a pair of singles and a double with three RBIs and Jenna Clary added three single. Jenna Rodriguez, Jordan Franz (two RBIs), Hannah McKinniss and Reagan Ward each had a pair of singles for the Rams (1-2).

Losing pitcher Lanei Rodriguez smacked a pair of doubles driving in a run and Breana Reinhart and Isabelle Mundy both added a pair of singles for the Redskins (0-1).

ARCHBOLD — Archbold’s Chloe Schramm limited Liberty-Benton to four hits and delivered at the plate as well in leading the Blue Streaks to a 13-1 win over the Eagles in Monday’s nonleague softball season opener for both teams.

Schramm drove in four runs with a double and a home run. Alexa Wilson and Faith Wyse had a double and a single each as the No. 5, No. 6 and No. 7 hitters in Archbold’s lineup accounted for six of the team’s 10 hits and seven of its 11 RBI.

Kiya Benschoter, L-B’s freshman leadoff hitter, and junior shortstop Taylor Young had two hits each.
