Findlay High School’s baseball team got a pair of solid pitching performances Saturday to sweep a nonconference doubleheader from Mansfield Madison at Flag City Memorial Field.

Drew McClain went five innings, allowing one unearned run on five hits with a walk and six strikeouts to get the win in Findlay’s 7-1 victory in the opener. Andrew Stechschulte went two scoreless innings, striking out four batters to finish up.

Ethan Canterbury doubled and singled and Patrick Dillon and Nick Kidwell both added RBI doubles for the Trojans.

A three-run uprising in the first inning paved the way for a 4-2 win in the nightcap.

Ryan Stillings allowed one unearned run on four hits with three walks and 12 strikeouts in six innings of work. Canterbury pitched one scoreless inning.

Dillon (RBI) doubled and singled and Garit Krupp added a pair of singles and two RBIs as the Trojans improved to 8-2.

Tennis finishes 3rd

LEXINGTON — Blake Gray and Andrew McCormick teamed up to win the No. 3 doubles division with a 3-0 record to lead Findlay High School’s boys tennis team to a third-place team finish at Saturday’s Lexington Invitational.

Lexington and Chagrin Falls Kenston tied for the team crown with 26 points. Findlay, Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuiot and North Canton Hoover finished in a three-way tie for third place with 22 points. Canfield (20), Toledo St. Francis (11) and Ottawa Hills (9) rounded out the field.

Drew Swisher and Max Hosey were 2-1 at No. 1 doubles and Logan Tichenor and Andrew Gilgen were 2-1 at No. 2 doubles. Both duos finished in fifth place.

Mac Robertson was 1-2 at No. 1 singles and finished sixth.

Softball splits

LIMA — Findlay High School doubled up Archbold in its opener but lost an error-filled nightcap to host Lima Bath in a pair of nonconference softball games on Saturday.

After the Trojans (8-4) spotted Archbold a 4-0 lead on Chloe Schramm’s grand slam in the first inning, the Trojans rallied for a 12-6 win.

Winning pitcher Kallie Kramer brought the Trojans back in a hurry with a 3-run homer of her own in the first frame as FHS tied the game at 4-4.

Findlay led just 7-6 before breaking things open with five runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Kramer finished with a home run, a single and four RBIs. Bre Bolen (RBI) and Sierra Cosart both had two singles and Leea Ibarra doubled for FHS.

Findlay and Bath combined to commit a dozen errors in the second game as the Wildkittens prevailed 8-6.

Renee McDonald was tagged with the loss. She allowed eight runs, just two earned, on eight hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Bolen doubled and singled and Lyndsay Ritzler added a pair of singles with an RBI. Sammy Ricard, Elisia Ledesma and Paige Steinke all hammered doubles for the Trojans.

Foos wins HJ

TOLEDO — Findlay High School sophomore Morgan Foos won the high jump as she led a strong performance by Findlay High School’s girls track team at Friday’s Toledo St. John’s Invitational.

Fremont Ross outscored Toledo Notre Dame 963/5-90 for the girls team crown. Findlay was next with 88 points.

Foos cleared 5-1 to win her specialty. Teammate Briana Thomas was second in the long jump (15-9).

Amanda Tremains had a hand in a pair of second-place finishes. She was second in the 3,200 (11:30.83) and teamed with Claire Short, Karlee Dittman and Alli Ernst for second in the 3,200 relay (11:30.83).

Toledo Whitmer outscored Toledo St. Francis 130-95 for the boys crown. Findlay was sixth with 55 points.

The Trojans had a pair of second-place finishes in the boys meet.

Findlay’s Ryan Sweat was second in the discus with a toss of 132-5 while Parker Fetterman was second in the 300 intermediate hurdles with a 42.21 seconds.
