University of Findlay senior Makenzie Torres was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Player of the Year.

In addition, UF’s Dominic Guarnieri was voted the Coach of the Year.

Torres, who has been named the Player of the Year in each of the past two seasons, also earned first team all-conference accolades and has been voted all-league in each of her four years at Findlay. She recently led the Oilers to their first NCAA Division II East Regional title by taking runner-up honors with a 54-hole score of 221 strokes.

She was second in the GMAC tournament with a 54-hole score of 229.

Guarnieri, who received the same honor last year as well, has now been named a league coach of the year four times during his tenure at Findlay.

Junior Meredith Wipper, senior Samantha Hatter, and sophomore Kristina Kniesly all earned first team all-conference honors for Findlay as well.

Wipper won the G-MAC Championship with a 54-hole score of 224 and took third at the regional with a 222.

Hatter finished fifth at the conference tournament with a 237 and Kniesly meanwhile took tenth at the GMAC Championship with a 242.

UF’s golfers all-GMAC

University of Findlay golfers Luke Kelly, Caleb Westfall and Tanner Grzegorczyk have earned first team all-Great Midwest Athletic Conference honors for their success during the 2018-19 season.

Westfall was third (220), Kelly finished fifth (222) and Grzegorczyk 13th (226) in the GMAC championships. In the NCAA Division II Super Regional tournament, Grzegorczyk tied for 14th (220), Kelly tied for 59th (228) and Westfall was 94th (237).

ONU players selected

ADA — Michael Rocco was a first-team pick and four other Ohio Northern University players received honors as well when the Ohio Athletic Conference baseball coaches selected their 2019 all-league teams.

A sophomore shortstop, Rocco finished third in the OAC in hitting with a .401 average. He led the Polar Bears with a .446 on-base percentage, a .458 slugging percentage, 28 RBI, and 13 stolen bases. He was second on the team with 57 base hits while adding 25 runs and six doubles.

Luke Klinehoffer, who hit .335 with 25 RBIs and led ONU in hits (59), doubles (12) and runs scored (39), and junior pitcher Jack Schaller, who was 5-3 with a 2.86 ERA, were second-team picks.

Pitchers Jackson Buda (2-0, 1 save) and Nate Bye (5 wins, 2.99 ERA) received honorable mention all-OAC recognition.

Ohio Northern was 23-18 this season and tied for third (10-8) in the final OAC standings.

BU players named

BLUFFTON — Bluffton University’s Dante D’Andrea and Colin Gregory earned second-team honors on the 2019 all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball team.

D’Andrea was 6-3 with four saves. His 1.70 earned run average was the lowest at Bluffton in nearly 30 years and ranked second in the conference behind HCAC Pitcher of the Year Luke Buehler.

Gregory led the HCAC with a BU single-season record 11 home runs. He drove in 38 runs, and scored 38, both totals placing him fifth in the HCAC rankings.

Bluffton’s Parker Reynolds (45 hits, .333 average) ) received honorable mention all-HCAC recognition.
