REYNOLDSBURG — Hunting Valley University School and New Albany, two of the top prep tennis programs in the state, proved it on Sunday when both schools swept past Findlay High in the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association Division I state team tournament.
Both University School and New Albany posted 3-0 wins over Findlay.
In the semifinals against University School, Findlay’s Max Hosey fell 6-1, 6-0 to Charlie Joranko at No. 2 singles. University School’s Ben Martin beat Findlay’s Carson Dale 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, and Spencer Krantz and Kiran Krishnamurthi defeated Findlay’s Blake Gray and Kevin Kuhn 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
In the consolation match, New Albany’s Nathan Jose downed Findlay’s Drew Swisher 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. New Albany also won the doubles matches; Logan Spiess and Alek Jacoby beat Logan Tichenor and Andrew Gilgen 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1, and Benjamin Yan and Dev Vasani defeated Gray and Kuhn 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2.
The Trojans, coming off the first Three Rivers Athletic Conference championship in school history, were making their first appearance in the OTCA Final Four. Findlay placed fourth overall in the final state team tournament standings.
