Seventh-inning rallies earned Pemberville the cushion it needed to win both games at the Findlay High School field on Sunday when the Freedom Post 183 team swept Findlay 8-6 and 6-5 in the final games of the 2019 regular season.

Findlay entered Sunday’s games on a three-game winning streak after beating Ottawa 9-6 and pummeling Piqua 12-2 and 16-5 in a Saturday doubleheader.

Post 3 led Pemberville 4-0 in the second game on Sunday after two-run second-inning doubles by Cody Balliet and Matthew Boes.

But Post 183 went up 5-4 in the top of the sixth inning on two-out RBI singles by Scott Mackiewicz and Joshua Vischer. Pemberville put the game winner on the board in the seventh on a leadoff double by Zach Marvin and two-out RBI single by Dawson Delventhal.

Singles by Jonathan Duvall and Boes led to a Findlay run in the bottom of the seventh, but Pemberville reliever Sam Witt retired three in a row to end it.

In Sunday’s opener, Pemberville’s Tyler Haas doubled and scored in the top of the seventh to provide the cushion needed for the 8-6 win.

Duvall had three base hits and Balliet, Levi Gazarek, Travis Milligan and Ryan Stillings had two each.

Findlay manhandled Piqua 12-2 in six innings and 16-5 in five in Saturday’s doubleheader.

Gazarek (4-1) allowed two hits and two runs in the opener and drove in four runs with a pair of base hits. Balliet (3-1B), Duvall (2-1B, 2B, 3 RBI), and Caden Lance (3-1B, RBI) all had three hits and Boes homered.

Tyler Lydick upped his pitching record to 4-0 by winning the second game. Stillings had three RBI singles and Lance (2-1B, RBI) and Gazarek (1B, 2B, 2 RBI) added two hits each.

Boes hit a leadoff solo home run in the top of the eighth inning and tripled in a run in the ninth in Findlay’s 9-6 win over Ottawa.

Findlay went 20-11 in regular-season games and is seeded No. 3 among the five teams that will compete in the double-elimination First District American Legion tournament that begins today. Games will be played at Ottawa and Pemberville, with No. 4-seeded Ottawa hosting No. 5 Napoleon at 7 p.m. today.
